ROCCO prints are made here at a Print Shop, hidden among the mountains on the outskirts of Kyoto. ROCCO has worked with this family-owned screen printer for over 50 years.
In other words, when it comes to fine silk prints, there is no instrument on Earth more precise than the human hand and eye.
Each ROCCO print begins as a sketch by designer Minoru Ichimura — the essential elements of a new pattern — to be realized by a local artist according to Minoru's instructions.
When the artist's proof is returned, Minoru carefully selects the colors. This is far more difficult than it sounds! Imagine selecting and balancing twelve perfect colors (out of thousands) for a pattern without being able to actually see the results. Until the finished product comes back, it exists only in Minoru's mind's eye.
